Great Chapter(Magna Carta in Latin), also called Great Charter of Liberties, or 1215 Great Chapter, is a constitutional document that British King John was forced to executed on June. 15th, 1215, with the purpose of protecting the political independence and economic rights and interests of the feudal nobility. This document written on parchment was the first one in history to restrict the power of feudal monarch and later became a legal foundation of British constitutional monarchy.

2015 has witnessed the 800th anniversary of the execution of Great Chapter and the UK hereby holds a global tour of the original documents related to Great Chapter held by Hereford cathedral. Recently this tour has come to China for the first time, with an exhibition and other activities lasting for two weeks. Today Dr. Wu Youming and Ms. Li Jianzhuan were invited to attend the Magna Carta 800 Global Tour – Guangzhou, and discussed the impact of Great Chapter on modern rule of law with the historians and law experts from China and the UK.
